stoop的基本意思是“彎腰,俯首”,有時(shí)指彎曲膝蓋來(lái)降低身體的高度,而頭部和軀干仍舊是挺直的。引申可作“屈尊,降格,墮落”解。還可指從較高的道德水平降到較低的道德水平或行為標(biāo)準(zhǔn)而作出不光彩的舉動(dòng)。
